The studies of one-dimensional compounds have attracted chemists for many i
nterests, because they are not only important for molecular-designing and m
agnetic materials, but also the basis of studying high-dimensional compound
s. Here we reported the preparation and X-ray analysis of 4,4'-bipyridine b
ridged one-dimensional compound {[Cu(trans[14]diene)SCN](2) . Mn (SCN)(4)(4
,4'-bipy) . 4H(2)O}(n), where(trans[14]diene) = 5,7,7,12,14,14-hexamethyl-1
,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradeca-4,11-diene, 4,4' -bipy = 4, 4' -bipyridine.
It crystallized in the triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, with a
= 0.959 20(10) nm, b = 1.068 00(10) nm, c = 1.731 6(2) nm, alpha = 84.400(
10)degrees, beta = 74.850(10)degrees, gamma = 69.650(10)degrees. V = 1.605
3(3) nm(3), Z = 1, D-c = 1.365 g/cm(3), F(000) = 691, final R[I>2 sigma(I)]
= 0.047 4, wR(1) = 0.134 8, R(all data) = 0.062 5, wR(2) = 0.146 8, GOF (F
-2) = 1. 222. This complex is consist of a [Mn(SCN)(4) . (4,4' -bipy)](2-)
chain and two [Cu(trans[14]diene) SCN](+) ions.
