Abstract
A bis-thiol derivative of 2,9-diaryl-1,10-phenanthroline was threaded throu gh a coordinating macrocycle using Cu(I) as a templating agent. This rotaxa ne adsorbs onto a gold surface, leading to a novel type of catenate, where gold aroma are incorporated within one of the two interlocking rings. The a dsorption procedure was monitored by cyclic voltammetry. (C) Academie des s ciences/Elsevier, Paris.
