Using the factorization scheme for the nonleptonic D --> VV0 weak amplitude
s, we classify all diagrams which arise in D --> V gamma decays and calcula
te them with the help of the hybrid model which combines the heavy quark ef
fective theory and the chiral Lagrangian approach. Thus we determine the lo
ng distance contribution to the amplitudes of Cabibbo allowed and Cabibbo s
uppressed D --> V gamma decays. The calculation of the expected range of th
e branching ratios of nine different D --> V gamma channels is compared wit
h results of other approaches. The present work establishes an increase of
the parity violating contribution in these decays in comparison with previo
us analyses.
