Abstract
The photocatalyzed degradation of Acid Blue 40, a textile dye, in aque ous suspension of TiO2 has been studied by monitoring the change in dy e concentration and formation of carbon dioxide as a function of irrad iation time. Mechanistic studies suggest that in addition to the react ion of the hydroxyl and superoxide radicals with the dye, electron tra nsfer from the photoexcited TiO2 to the dye forms a significant pathwa y in the photodegradation process.
