Ae. Kontorovich et al., Lithology, organic geochemistry, and formation conditions of basic rocks in the Bazhenovka Formation (West Siberia), GEOL GEOFIZ, 39(11), 1998, pp. 1477-1491
The lithology and organic geochemistry of the major oil-producing formation
in the West-Siberian petroliferous basin, Bazhenovka Formation, are consid
ered. Two types of rocks making up the formation are described; biogenic (b
azhenovites) and terrigenous (mudstones),. Their organic composition and di
stribution of hydrocarbons-biomarkers are studied. The paper considers the
cyclic character of sedimentation on the area of the West-Siberian sea basi
n the Volgian and refines the model for this sedimentation. also, oil gener
ation potentials of the bazhenovites and mudstones and some regularities of
the petroleum potential of the West-Siberian basin are discussed and subst
antiated.
