Op. Polyanskii, Mathematical modeling of the Teletskoe Lake faults for estimation of paleostresses under the Earth's crust extension, GEOL GEOFIZ, 39(11), 1998, pp. 1587-1597
A model of formation of tectonic extension structures with faults has been
developed and tested on the Teletskoe Lake (Gorny Altai) rift. The dynamic
model of formation of the U-shaped structure of the Earth's crust extension
was based on the rheology of a nonlinearly hardened plastoelastic body. Th
e designed software is universal and is intended to solve plane plastoelast
ic problems. The author considers the problems of plane stressed state and
plane deformation. The calculations show that a 4-5 km wide rift can form w
hen the medium undergoes a tensile stress no less than 1.5 kbar. The dynami
cs of development of a plastic-flow zone and the position of the boundary o
f the elastic-deformation-plastic-deformation transition are studied. The p
aper also discusses possible mechanisms of formation of zones of radial-fau
lts joint which border the margins of the main rift basin.
