During the exploration of new synthetic routes to multiply-bonded ditungste
n compounds, a distorted edge-sharing bioctahedral product W-2(mu-H)(mu-OC2
H5)(mu-O2CC6H5)(eta(1)-OC2H5)(2)Cl-2(eta(2)-P,P'-dppp) where dppp is 1,3 bi
s(diphenylphosphino) propane was synthesized. X-ray crystallographic data w
ere obtained for the W-2(7+) complex which contains a W-W bond distance of
2.4791(7) Angstrom, similar to the W-W bond distances observed in W-2(6+) e
dge-sharing bioctahedral (ESBO) compounds (similar to 2.5 Angstrom). (C) 19
