Two series of Zn-substituted LiMg and LiMgTi ferrites were prepared by the
solid state reaction method with a view to investigate their elastic behavi
our. The elasticity studies were undertaken by measuring the ultrasonic vel
ocities by adopting the pulse transmission technique. As the materials unde
r investigation are porous, the experimentally obtained elastic moduli such
as Young's moduli, rigidity moduli, Poisson's ratio have been corrected to
zero porosity using Ledbetter and Datta's formulae. It has been observed t
hat all the elastic moduli decrease continuously with increasing dopant's c
oncentration. Using the experimental data, other important elasticity param
eters such as the Debye temperature, V-l/rho and V-s/rho have also been eva
luated and their variation with dopant's concentration has been explained q
ualitatively. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
