Abstract
The fluorescence properties of a new family of Sm3+-doped powder phosphors of GdOBr, (Gd0.9Y0.1)OBr, (Gd0.6Y0.4)OBr, (Gd0.3Y0.7)OBr, and YOBr are repo rted. The measured fluorescence spectra have been analysed by computing the colour coordinates ((X) over bar,(Y) over bar) and stimulated emission cro ss-sections (sigma(p)(E), cm(2)). These Sm3+-phosphors display bright reddi sh-orange colour due to transitions (4)G(5/2) --> H-6(9/2) (red) and (4)G(5 /2) --> H-6(7/2) (orange) under a UV source. The relative fluorescence inte nsity ratios (red/orange) for the different measured emission levels were a lso evaluated in order to examine the Gd-Y, host composition effects on flu orescence behaviour.
