Abstract
A helicoidal specimen of Chondrites Sternberg from Upper Cretaceous marry f lysch in Switzerland is interpreted as a deep-tier trace fossil. Its produc er reworked the filling of a shallow-tier helicoidal burrow that was emplac ed earlier, but the earlier trace fossil is not preserved. The aberrant Cho ndrites was formed by the same tracemaker as the adjacent Chondrites intric atus (Brongniart). (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
