P. Villamil et al., Infrared transitions between hydrogenic states in cylindrical GaAs quantum-well wires under applied magnetic fields, PHYS REV B, 59(3), 1999, pp. 1605-1608
Using the effective-mass approximation within the variational approach, we
have calculated the binding and the allowed transition energies between the
1s-, 2s-, 2p(+/-)-, 2p(z)-, 3s-, 3p(+/-)-, and 3p(z)-like states of a hydr
ogenic on-center donor impurity in a cylindrical GaAs quantum-well wire, un
der the action of a magnetic held applied in the axial direction. Our resul
ts are obtained for several wire radii and as a function of the applied mag
netic field. We have found that some excited states are not bounded for som
e values of the radius of the wire and of the applied magnetic field, and t
hat the geometric confinement and the applied magnetic field split the dege
neracy of some excited states. [S0163-1829(99)06503-0].
