Abstract
A significantly enhanced spectroscopic method for mapping microwave fields in tokamak plasmas is suggested. The method employs the laser-induced fluor escence from a hydrogen or deuterium beam. The first draft of the method wa s published by us previously and implemented in a model experiment. In dist inction to that, the method proposed here does not require a calibration at the zero microwave field and also is more accurate. It is based on our nov el theoretical results on the interaction of H-like quantum systems with bo th a strong microwave and a laser field. (C) 1999 American Institute of Phy sics.
