THE RELIABILITY OF THE SOFTWARE OF THE DIGITAL-CONTROL SYSTEM NUCLEARADVANTAGE

The ABB nuclear power control system Nuclear Advantage is a truly inte grated control system. The integration of process control and safety c ontrol aims at achieving a common operator interface in order to simpl ify and thus improve control room ergonomics. The challenge is to desi gn an integrated control system and at the same time ensure the functi onal separation between the independent safety subsystems as well as b etween the safety and the conventional sections. Software reliability is discussed and illustrated by statistical test results. It has prove d to be a hundred times better than the reliability of the high-qualit y hardware.
