Physical models have been developed to describe the radiation of Rayleigh w
aves by normal fatigue cracks at and near the surfaces of materials during
the growth of the cracks. A corresponding set of programs is used to study
the main laws governing the radiation of Rayleigh waves by these sources. T
he relations that are obtained can be used to develop test methods based on
acoustic emission (AE) for applications in which the main goal is to obtai
n an AE signal from the most dangerous surface cracks.
