A methodology for the engineering of mineral reserves was developed to enab
le Radomiro Tomic, a new division of Codelco-Chile, to be brought into prod
uction. A clear audit trail, from estimation of resources through to econom
ic evaluation, assists the company to appraise the bankable status of the r
eserves so engineered. The work reported led to the formation of a new tech
nical body within Codelco-Chile, Geplam, charged with the task of reviewing
the quality of reserves engineering presented as the basis for investment
requests.
