The spectrum of eight-times ionized platinum was photographed in the 1
00-400 Angstrom region using a 2-m and a IO-m grazing incidence spectr
ographs. The 5d(2)-(5d6p + 5d5f) transitions of Pt IX were analysed an
d 116 lines have been classified in the 216-345 Angstrom region. All n
ine levels of the 5d(2) configuration, all twelve levels of the 5d6p c
onfiguration and eighteen of twenty levels of the 5d5f configuration h
ave been established. Hartree-Fock and least-squares fitted parametric
calculations were carried out and they interpret the observed level s
tructure quite satisfactorily.
