Abstract
The title compound, [PtI2(C8H10N4)], exhibits square-planar cis coordinatio n of the Pt atom to the two I atoms [mean Pt-I distance = 2.587(6)Angstrom] and the two unmethylated imidazole N atoms [mean Pt-N distance = 2.020(6)A ngstrom], Successively antiparallel near-planar [PtI2(C8H10N4)] units form zigzag chains along the b axis, with Pt ... Pt distances longer than the in terplanar spacing.
