Abstract
The emotions and expectations that arise in the contest of a sexual relatio nship have a strong impact on sexual response, furthermore, sexual response does not exist independent of one's sexual history, which itself is embedd ed in a cultural context impact on sexual furthermore, sexual is embedded i n a cultural context that molds the attitudes, expectations, and sex roles of the partners. In examining erectile dysfunction (ED), factors in the dom ains of cultural context, sexual histories, sexual dyadic actors, and indiv idual personalities must be taken into account. The outcomes of treatment f or sexual dysfunction must address not only the physical problem but the nu ances of psychological and interpersonal issues as well, because the relati onship between psychosocial factors and genital response is an interactive one. Therefore, improved genital functioning, better sexual satisfaction, a nd an enhanced sexual relationship should be the explicit and implicit goal s of treating ED.
