S. Marengo et al., STUDY OF PHOTON PROPAGATION IN A LIQUID SCATTERING MEDIUM, Journal de chimie physique et de physico-chimie biologique, 94(2), 1997, pp. 251-256
We used an imaging technique that consists in recovering the ballistic
photons traveling through a strongly diffusing solution of water and
milk while blocking the diffuse light with an ultrafast optical Kerr g
ate. in spite of the great absorbance of the medium (between 5 and 6),
the image of an object immersed in it can be obtained. The temporal d
iscriminating power (similar to 1 ps) improves the contrast aid the qu
ality of the optical system allows high resolution (similar to 250 mu
m). The eventual application of this technique to imaging of biologica
l tissues, for mammography in particular, is considered.
