Resveratrol administration to rats inoculated with a fast growing tumour (t
he Yoshida AH-130 ascites hepatoma) caused a very significant decrease (25%
) in the tumour cell content. The effects of this diphenol were associated
with an increase in the number of cells in the G(2)/M cell cycle phase. Int
erestingly, flow cytometric analysis of the tumour cell population revealed
the existence of an aneuploid peak (representing 28% of total), which sugg
ests that resveratrol causes apoptosis in the tumour cell population result
ing in a decreased cell number. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
