Abstract
The simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) of damaged grains of sorghum and rice was carried out using Aspergillus niger (NCIM 1248) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae VSJ1. More ethanol was produced from the damaged sorghum (2.90% v/v) than damaged rice (2.09% v/v) under optimal fermentatio n conditions. This study reveals that damaged grains can be utilized effici ently by an SSF process for the production of ethanol. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sc ience Ltd. All rights reserved.
