Abstract
The iodine centered OH-adduct formed on reaction of (OH)-O-. radicals with 1-chloro-4-iodobutane in neutral aqueous solution transforms (k = 5.4 x 10( 5) s(-1)) to an intra-molecular radical cation (Itherefore+Cl). The unfavor able structural conformation of solute radical cation generated on reaction of (OH)-O-. radicals with 1-chloro-5-iodopentane does not allow the transf ormation of OH-adduct into an intra-molecular radical and instead a dimer r adical cation (-Itherefore+Cl-) is formed.
