An attempt to approach structure-phenomenon relationship problems has
been made through a nonstandard solution. The distances estimating the
resemblance of molecular systems are considered from a universal view
point. Generally, the families of sets reflecting structural features
are quantitatively compared with set-theoretical representations given
by phenomena. The illustrative example of diammine platinum(II) compl
exes and their dipole moments have been analysed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Sc
