Abstract
To define science priorities for the conservation and management of souther n Ontario's remaining forest, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources inv ited resource managers, planners and scientists working with numerous gover nment and non-government agencies to a workshop on March 24 and 25, 1998. P articipants identified their three top resource concerns for this region's forests. Some of these included: (1) protection of remnant natural areas, ( 2) declines in forest cover and woodlot quality, and (3) ineffective inform ation transfer to private woodlot owners. Recommendations, including those which require science input, are discussed under three goals: protect exist ing forest cover, increase forest cover, and improve our understanding of h uman impacts of forest ecosystems.
