Abstract
Disconnection events (DEs) from Halley's comet are analyzed as a group tin order to minimize the impact of uncertainties in any single event) for corr elation with solar-wind features. This analysis utilizes new coronal source -surface model results and new fitting techniques to determine the best cal culated heliospheric current sheet (HCS) location. Details for several DEs are presented. The results confirm that the 19 DEs are associated with crossings of the HC S. No other property of the solar wind shows a one-to-one association with DEs. Thus, theoretical efforts should concentrate on conditions at BCS cros sings (see Y, Yi et at, 1996, J. Geophys. Res, 101,27,586-27,601). (C) 1999 Academic Press.
