Kinetics of acid hydrolysis of N-p-tolylbenzohydroxamic acid has been studi
ed in the presence of cationic micelles of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide
, tetradecyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, cet
ylpyridinium chloride and cetylpyridinium bromide, anionic micelles of sodi
um dodecyl sulphate and sodium dodecanoate, and non-ionic micelles of Brij-
35. Cationic, and non-ionic micelles inhibit and anionic micelles accelerat
e the rate of hydrolysis. Kinetic data corresponding to the reaction with s
urfactants are analysed using Portnoy - Menger and pseudo-phase ion exchang
e models.
