Mononuclear Mn(III) and Fe(III) complexes of diamide ligands formed by the
reaction of methyl salicylate with triamines like diethylene triamine (DET)
and dipropylene triamine (DPT) have been synthesised. These complexes have
been characterised by elemental analysis, spectral, magnetic, FAB mass spe
ctral and electrochemical studies. These complexes have been used as cataly
sts for the epoxidation of olefines like norbornene, cis-cyclooctene and cy
clohexene, using mono-oxygen donor PhIO as the oxidant. The mechanism of ca
talytic reaction has been discussed on the basis of spectral and electroche
mical studies.
