Some new tri- and di-organotin(IV) derivatives of benzilmonohydrazone have
been prepared by the reaction of the corresponding tri- and di-organotin(IV
) chlorides with the sodium salt of benzilmonohydrazone (prepared in situ)
in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios, respectively, in refluxing benzene. These deri
vatives have been characterised by elemental analyses, molecular weights, c
onductivity measurements, melting points determinations, and IR and NMR (H-
1 and Sn-119) spectral studies. All the complexes are monomeric and non-ele
ctrolytic in nature, and are soluble in most of the organic solvents. IR an
d NMR spectral data of these complexes show the bidente behaviour of benzil
monohydrazone and five-coordinate and coordinate structures for triorganoti
n(IV) diorganotin(N) derivatives, respectively.
