Magnitude estimation is frequently used for measuring the strength of subje
ctive sensation in ergonomics studies. Although the data obtained by magnit
ude estimation are easy to interpret, caution must be taken in both plannin
g/conducting an experiment and analyzing the results. This study presents a
systematic and generalized method for analyzing the magnitude estimation d
ata. Critical considerations and recommendations are suggested in each stag
e of planning, conducting, and analyzing an experiment. An interactive soft
ware program (named MEDAS: Magnitude Estimation Data Analysis System) was d
eveloped which implemented the rules and procedures for analyzing the magni
tude estimation data.
