Differential cross sections for the elastic scattering of electrons from th
e ions Na+, Cs+, Mg2+, N3+ and Ar8+ have been calculated employing model- a
nd pseudopotential and quantum-defect methods. Comparison with recent exper
iments showed satisfactory agreement for Na+ and N3+ but poorer agreement f
or Cs+ and Ar8+ targets. Generally, model-potential results were in better
agreement with experiment than those obtained using pseudopotentials.
