BACKGROUND: Tubal effects of methotrexate injections have been poorly repor
ted.
CASES: Three fallopian tubes were examined with light microscopy 9-13 month
s after tubal methotrexate injection (one case) and intramuscular methotrex
ate injection (two cases) given for the treatment of unruptured ectopic pre
gnancies. No evidence of tubal damage was found.
CONCLUSION: These three cases confirm previous experimental wand clinical d
ata showing the absence of a direct adverse effect of methotrexate on the f
allopian tubes in the treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
