The possibility of using doped chiral systems, which show the property of t
he dynamic optical hysteresis, as optical limiters is considered. A theoret
ical analysis of the interaction of the transmitted radiation with a resona
ntly absorbing chiral system is carried out using a two-level model of the
absorbing center. The experimental value of the nonlinearity threshold, obt
ained for a ketocyanine-nematochiral liquid-crystal system, is similar to 2
50 mu J/cm(2) at a wavelength of 530 nm.
