A case of hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma diagnosed prenatally with ultrasoun
d and confirmed histologically post-delivery is presented. Although histolo
gically benign, this lesion resulted in fetal demise secondary to congestiv
e cardiac failure in the third trimester. The development of non-immune hyd
rops in association with a fetal hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma is a poor pr
ognostic sign for perinatal survival. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons,
