W. Lehmann et I. Juling, Validity of an entrance examination for pupils for a secondary school emphasizing mathematics and sciences and accentuating the technological profile, PSYCHOL ERZ, 46(1), 1999, pp. 41-54
With the help of an entrance examination pupils were selected for a special
school. The entrance examination consisted of three parts (test paper in m
athematics, parts of the LPS intelligence test by Horn, marks of the school
reports). The aim of the study is to test the prognostic validity of the e
xamination. During the following two years, achievement and personality dev
elopment were assessed with the help of school reports, teachers' evaluatio
ns and children's self-evaluations as well as by different test results. Wi
th the help of the entrance examination, the selected pupils were divided i
nto two groups-one of low achievers and the other of high achievers. High a
chievement in the entrance examination is related to better school results,
especially in those tasks which are typical for the profile of the special
school. The regression analysis shows that the prognostic validity is incr
eased by aggregating the three predictive variables.
