L. Imbach, A cognitive behavior therapy with a maladapted youngster in the closed department of a youth training home, PSYCHOL ERZ, 46(1), 1999, pp. 65-74
This contribution deals with the question of whether the association of psy
chotherapeutic treatment as a complement to the standard pedagogical method
s used by educators with maladapted youngsters, in a closed department of a
training home, is more effective than simply the implementation of the ped
agogical concept. The psychotherapeutic intervention was so arranged to inf
luence the pedagogical concept as little as possible. The psychotherapeutic
intervention was based on learn theoretic axioms of cognitive theories. Th
e intervention did not bring the expected success. Difficulties arose above
all in the transfer of the directives from the therapeutical setting to th
e everyday. Special difficulties were present in the realisation of the cog
nitive techniques. This leaves the question open how reasonable this is wit
h maladapted youngsters. In addition the integration of the psychotherapeut
ic intervention closer with the pedagogical concept appears unavoidable. Ei
ther through using group therapies or by the increased involvement of the e
ducator in the therapeutical treatment.
