The Applied Physics Laboratory is involved in a program sponsored by t
he U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing to increase the security of t
his nation's currency against counterfeiting. The program seeks to dev
elop new security features for the currency and to monitor development
s in reprographic technology. Some features are intended to allow visu
al identification of counterfeits by the general public; others are to
be machine readable and are designed for cash transfer machines and g
overnmental inspection.
