A new promising mimetic peroxidase, iron-tetrasulfonatophthalocyanine (FeTS
PC), has been synthesized and applied to the determination of hydrogen pero
xide based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of p-hydroxyphenylpropi
onic acid (p-HPPA). Under optimum conditions, the calibration graph has a l
inear range of 0.0x10(-6)-3.6x10(-6) mol/l hydrogen peroxide with a detecti
on limit of 1.3x10(-8) mol/l in a 30 min reaction period. Application of th
e system to the determination of glucose shows a linear range 0.0x10(-6)-6.
0x10(-6) mol/l and a detection limit of 3.1x10(-8) mol/l. The feasibility o
f FeTSPC as a new mimetic peroxidase in practical clinical analysis has bee
n proven in the determination of glucose in human serum. (C) 1999 Elsevier
