Vs. Artyukh et al., Investigations of compact steep-spectrum radio sources using 102-MHz interplanetary-scintillation observations, ASTRON REP, 43(1), 1999, pp. 1-12
Interplanetary-scintillation observations of the radio sources 3C 43, 3C 4X
, 3C 49, CTA 21, 3C 119, 3C 138, 3C 286, 3C 287, OQ 172, 3C 309.1, 3C 343,
and CTA 102 have been carried out at 102 MHz. Scintillations were observed
for all sources. Estimates of the integrated flux densities and the flux de
nsities of the compact (scintillating) components are presented. The spectr
a of the scintillating components have cut-offs at frequencies below 1 GHz.
The physical conditions in the cores of the quasars and radio galaxies stu
died are estimated. In most cases, the energy of relativistic particles exc
eeds the energy of the magnetic field, sometimes by many orders of magnitud
e.
