Abstract
In this paper we study the transient ozone generation process in polluted u rban areas, using a simplified set of chemical reactions for the NOx and hy drocarbon photolysis. We obtained a reduced kinetic mechanism and it is sol ved using the boundary layer theory due to the appearance of two time scale s in the problem associated with the photo-chemical reactions of the NO2 an d unburned fuel, respectively. Assuming a temporal addition of ozone precur sor species, we obtained in closed form, the temporal evolution of the ozon e concentration as a function of the physico-chemical parameters.
