In this work we studied the subcellular localization of ciliary neurotrophi
c factor (CNTF) in primary culture of rat cortical type I astrocytes and ra
t glioma C6 cells, transfected COS-7 cells and in the Xenopus oocytes. in a
ll these models, morphological and biochemical evidence are provided for th
e nuclear localization of CNTF. In addition the nuclear translocation of CN
TF is temperature-sensitive and thus strongly suggestive of a mechanism of
