Abstract
Conversion of trans-3,4-dibromotetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide into 4- methoxy-2,3-dihydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide proceeds via isomers of 3,4-d imethoxytetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide and gives 3,3-dimethoxytetrahy drothiophene 1,1-dioxide before distillation: 4-methoxy- and 4-pivaloy loxy-2,3-dihydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide failed to yield 3,3-dialkyltetra hydrothiophene 1,1-dioxides by reaction with higher-order cuprates and other organometallic reagents.
