OPERATING EXPERIENCE WITH A MAERZ KILN FO R SMALL LIMESTONE AT THE KALTES-TAL LIME-WORKS

The existing lime kilns at the ''Kaltes Tal'' lime works belonging to Harz-Kalk GmbH, consisting of 3 gas-heated ring shaft kilns and 2 mode rnized mixed firing kilns, were supplemented by a Maerz kiln for small limestone. This kiln uses the GGR (co-current-counter-current regener ative) process and makes it possible to burn crushed limestone in smal l sizes with edge lengths from 11 mm. A report is given of the modific ation of this kiln, which operates on the familiar GGR system, and of the operating experience after one year in production. The new Maerz k iln for smalt limestone has fulfilled all expectations.
