Herbal samples have been taken in France from eight different areas gr
azed by young cattle between june and october 1996 in order to count t
he infective gastrointestinal and respiratory strongyle larvae. The re
sults show a predominant Cooperia throughout the season and a postpone
d summer rise related to the drought. The arithmetic means (L3 per kg
herb) of the different species are 3652 Cooperia spp (67,8%), 1466 Ost
ertagia spp (27,2%), 220 Nematodirus spp (4,1%), 33 Trichostrongylus s
pp (0,6%) and 14 Dictyocaulus viviparus (0,3%).
