Abstract
Piperdardine 1 and chingchengenamide A 2, naturally occurring dienamides, a re synthesized in 28% and 16% overall yield, respectively, from commerciall y available safrole 3. The key steps involve aldol addition to the enal 5 a nd mild palladium-catalyzed elimination of the carbonates 7 and 10.
