Excess molar enthalpies and excess molar volumes at the temperature 298.15K
were determined for a set of 42 binary mixtures of six ethyl alkanoates (f
rom octanoate to hexadecanoate) and seven odd n-alkanes (from pentane to he
ptadecane). Both properties were represented by a suitable equation. All mi
xtures presented positive excess enthalpy values, mainly due to the energet
ic effects of the van der Waals forces and dipole-dipole attractions, with
low, or even negative excess volume values, except for the case of the mixt
ures that contained high molar mass hydrocarbons. Calculated curves obtaine
d from group-contribution models did not represent well the experimental da
ta. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
