The pulping of wheat straw has been carried out by alkali-peroxide-ant
hraquinone (AQ) delignification process. The experiments have also bee
n conducted with soda, soda-AQ, and kraft pulping process. nle experim
ental results indicated that with almost same cooking conditions and e
quivalent alkali dose all these processes can acquire pulps with almos
t same permanganate number, but their screen yield, optical characteri
stics, physical strength properties and environmental pollution load o
f the process are entirely different. The over-all pulp characteristic
s of peroxide-alkali (PA process) was found to be comparatively superi
or in comparison the all other pulping processes studied. The addition
of hydrogen peroxide during pulping enhances the selectivity of delig
nification along with less degradation/deterioration of the pulp fiber
s.
