H. Arai et al., Two sets of biphenyl and PCB degradation genes on a linear plasmid in Rhodococcus erythropolis TA421, J FERM BIOE, 86(6), 1998, pp. 595-599
Rhodococcus erythropolis TA421 has seven genes encoding 2,3-dihydroxybiphen
yl dioxygenase. Three of them are located on a linear plasmid that is neces
sary for growth on biphenyl. Sequence analysis revealed that two of the pla
smid-derived genes (bphC3 and bphC4) are accompanied by the genes for other
enzymes involved in the biphenyl degradation pathway, i.e. biphenyl dioxyg
enase, dihydrodiol dehydrogenase, and hydrolase.
