Gd. Landry et Ta. Maldonado, Switching and second harmonic generation using counterpropagating quasi-phase-matching in a mirrorless configuration, J LIGHTW T, 17(2), 1999, pp. 316-327
Numerical solutions to the set of coupled nonlinear wave equations for a no
vel mirrorless counterpropagating quasi-phase-matched (c-QPM) device are pr
esented, Mirrorless c-QPM is investigated in stand-alone and in two interfe
rometric configurations for ah-optical switching (AOS) applications. The sw
itching intensity is found to be very low using existing materials (e.g., 5
00 mW in a 1-cm-long KTP waveguide with a 10 mu m(2) effective area). Addit
ionally, parameter sets are found that minimize pulse breakup and improve t
he possibility of a practical implementation.. Although second harmonic gen
eration (SHG) is also investigated in the stand-alone device, the conversio
n efficiency is shown to be eight times less efficient than the mirrored co
nfiguration.
