M. Herbich et al., Role of the Jahn-Teller effect of the V2+ center in the magnetic anisotropy of Cd1-xVxS and Cd1-xVxSe, PHYS REV B, 59(4), 1999, pp. 2726-2730
The magnetization measurements of the wurtzite crystals Cd1-xVxS and Cd1-xV
xSe far magnetic field (up to 6 T) parallel and perpendicular to the crysta
l hexagonal axis are presented. Strong anisotropy of magnetization is obser
ved fur Cd1-xVxS at low temperatures (2, 10 K), while for Cd1-xVxSe the ani
sotropy is much weaker. The magnetization data are well described by the cr
ystal-field model of the V2+ center, taking into account strong static Jahn
-Teller effect of the trigonal symmetry. The differences in the anisotropy
of magnetization for Cd1-xVxS and Cd1-xVxSe are interpreted as due to the d
ifferent distributions of different V2+ centers for both systems. [S0163-18
