This research analyzed both the reliability (alpha coefficient) and the con
struct validity of the Cuestionario de Confianza para Hablar en Publico (Ba
dos, 1986, 1991), in a representative sample of 799 students of the Univers
ity Orientation Course (UOC) and the first grade of High Professional Educa
tion (1st HPE). The internal consistency was high. By means of a confirmato
ry factorial analysis with the LISREL 8 program (Joreskog y Sorbom, 1993),
we found that, comparing several alternative models, an unifactorial model
adjusted quite well to data. We conclude that the Cuestionario de Confianza
para Hablar en Publico is a reliable and valid instrument to assess speech
anxiety with Spanish students of Secondary Education, and we propose a sho
rt version of this instrument.
